What you can do

Raising awareness is only half the battle. Here’s what you can do to get involved in improving the lives of sickle cell patients in our community:

  •  Host a We Are the Answer education session for your organization.
  • A South Texas Blood & Tissue Center’s Community Relations Specialist can make arrangements to address 20 or more of your peers with a We Are the Answer presentation. They’ll give you the tools you need to join the cause. Email us if you’re interested.
  • Donate blood and join the Be the Match registry.
  • Open the dialogue about blood, marrow and cord blood donation with your family, friends and co-workers.
  • Share what you’ve learned on this site with people you know and encourage them to connect for life. An easy way to spread the word is to follow or like connectforlife on Twitter or Facebook. Share or retweet our posts with your online community!
  • Help distribute educational posters and literature.
  • Download a We Are the Answer Poster, print out educational literature.
  • Host a We Are the Answer blood or marrow registration drive at your school, work, or place of worship.
  • Contact our donor recruitment department to host a We Are the Answer blood drive. A donor recruiting consultant serving your area will be happy to guide you through the process to ensure your blood drive is successful. Email donor recruitment or call them at 210.731.5590.
  • To host a marrow registration drive contact Yvonne Ybarra, Director of the Be The Match Program of Central and South Texas via email or call 210.731.5513.
