Red Cord Honors High School Program

South Texas Blood and Tissue is pleased to offer something new in the 2009/2010 school year. It is called the Red Cord Honors Program.

It is designed specifically to acknowledge and honor the students who are making such significant contributions to our community.

All high school seniors are eligible to participate in the Red Cord Honors Program.  At graduation or awards night, STBTC will award one red honor cord to each senior who has given blood six times during their lifetime. 

WHY WOULD YOU  WANT TO  BE A RED CORD HONOREE?

  1. Recognition for saving lives

    • Seniors who have donated six times or more have made the difference in the lives of over 18 hospital patients.
    • Displays life-saving achievement.

         2.  Right of Passage

    • Being able to donate blood is a right of passage from the free-spirited teen years, to becoming an adult and demonstrating their commitment to community and social responsibility.

          3. Inspiration

    • Students that participate in the Red Cord Honors Program will inspire other young adults to donate in the future.

HOW DOES THE RED CORD HONORS PROGRAM WORK?

South Texas Blood & Tissue Center will provide chairpersons with a list of student donors who have donated six times in their lifetime and qualify for their Red Cord honor.

Chairperson will review list, verify seniors and return to STBTC before scheduled date of senior awards night or graduation program.

Red cords will be provided before your awards night event or graduation.  If requested, STBTC will have a representative available to present the Red Cord Honor to students at the awards event.
