San Antonio Police Chief Saves Lives through Blood Donation
Chief William McManus Reaches One Gallon Donation Mark on January 27
SAN ANTONIO (Jan. 25, 2010) –San Antonio’s Police Chief William McManus doesn’t just protect and serve; he saves lives as a regular blood donor. With his donation scheduled for Wednesday, January 27th Chief McManus will reach his one gallon donation at the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center (STBTC).
McManus’ experience in meeting many of those whom have received donated blood makes him a strong supporter of STBTC’s lifesaving mission. On Wednesday, January 27, 2010 STBTC is honoring him with a gallon-donor pin at STBTC’s Donor Pavilion at 8:30am.
Every day in South Texas, 600 units of blood are required in hospitals and emergency treatment facilities to help save lives of patients with cancer and other diseases, organ transplant recipients and accident victims.
Anyone who is 16 years old weighing 120 pounds (with parental consent form), or at least 17 years old weighing 110 pounds and in good general health may donate blood. Donors must present identification. For more information call 731-5555 or visit our website at www.southtexasblood.org.
